LOS ANGELES, CA — A homeowner in Valley Village shot an intruder during an attempted burglary on Monday afternoon, prompting a police search for two additional suspects, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Addison Street near Colfax Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m.
Preliminary information suggests that two suspects entered the home while it was occupied. The homeowner, armed with a handgun, confronted the intruders and fired at them.
LAPD Cpt. Kelly Muniz reported that one suspect, described as a 25-year-old male, sustained a gunshot wound and was conscious when transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The homeowner, who also sustained injuries, was taken to the hospital as well.
Aerial footage from the scene showed a significant police presence, including officers from the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division. Police established a three-block perimeter to search for the remaining suspects and a possible getaway driver.
A black sedan was spotted at the scene, but it is unclear if it was related to the suspects.
Authorities placed a nearby church and school on lockdown as a precaution and advised residents to stay indoors and secure their homes.
The LAPD has increased patrols in the area while the search for the suspects continues. The investigation remains active, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
