Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the added 1.85% to hit a new all time high, while the index climbed 0.64%, and the index added 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:), which rose 6.50% or 33.50 points to trade at 548.87 at the close. Meanwhile, Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:) added 4.28% or 14.81 points to end at 360.58 and Boeing Co (NYSE:) was up 3.87% or 6.94 points to 186.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.10% or 2.69 points to trade at 125.43 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) declined 0.98% or 4.47 points to end at 449.49 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) was down 0.35% or 0.12 points to 34.34.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Molina Healthcare Inc (NYSE:) which rose 8.22% to 307.33, Builders FirstSource Inc (NYSE:) which was up 8.01% to settle at 165.44 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 7.55% to close at 7.98.
The worst performers were Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:) which was down 10.19% to 67.42 in late trade, Raymond James Financial Inc (NYSE:) which lost 6.28% to settle at 113.51 and Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 3.76% to 204.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Alzamend Neuro Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 964.34% to 3.97, Silo Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 123.36% to settle at 2.39 and Yoshitsu Co Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:) which gained 103.40% to close at 0.62.
The worst performers were Adamas One Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 25.88% to 0.33 in late trade, Autonomix Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 23.19% to settle at 1.06 and Antelope Enterprise Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 21.47% to 4.06 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2304 to 546 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2590 rose and 744 declined, while 115 ended unchanged.
Shares in Silo Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 123.36% or 1.32 to 2.39.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.53% to 13.19.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.80% or 43.70 to $2,472.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.24% or 1.00 to hit $79.84 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.23% or 1.04 to trade at $83.81 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.24% to 158.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 103.91.
