There’s always new Civivi stuff to cover, of course, but one format in their catalog we like to pay especial attention to, due to its relative rarity, is the classic outdoor fixed blade category. There’s a new one arriving this month, the Cloud Peak, and it offers a well-rounded blade suited to many different needs.
Probably the Cloud Peak’s closest relation within the active Civivi catalog is the Teton Tickler, the company’s take on the classic bowie. At 4.6 inches long, Cloud Peak’s blade, a wide, flat-ground drop point, runs smaller than the Teton’s; and whereas that previous model utilized D2 steel, here we’re seeing Nitro-V instead, a full stainless formulation that has always been a bit of a sleeper hit in the waiting in our book.
The altered dimensions and steel give the Cloud Peak the air of a real all-arounder, the kind of fixed blade that could be your main chore-accomplisher in the field, a backup to something bigger, or a good old-fashioned camp knife. We thankfully appear to be past the age where the full tangedness of a fixed blade was not a given; it goes without saying here that the presence of that preferred construction here means hard chores aren’t out of the question.
The handle scales are made from your choice of black G-10, green G-10, or guibourtia wood; they’re nicely rounded and look to be hand-filling and comfortable. The nickel silver guard is edge-side only, in a manner that reminds us of classic Loveless drop point designs. The Cloud Peak comes with a leather sheath and it weighs 7.8oz.
This one is available now.
