Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the gained 1.75% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the were Appen Ltd (ASX:), which rose 13.43% or 0.09 points to trade at 0.76 at the close. Meanwhile, St Barbara Ltd (ASX:) added 7.14% or 0.02 points to end at 0.22 and Kogan.com Ltd (ASX:) was up 6.60% or 0.28 points to 4.52 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Omni Bridgeway Ltd (ASX:), which fell 3.33% or 0.04 points to trade at 1.01 at the close. Origin Energy Ltd (ASX:) declined 1.60% or 0.17 points to end at 10.43 and Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX:) was down 1.17% or 0.02 points to 1.69.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 712 to 432 and 428 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.35% to 12.32.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.68% or 16.65 to $2,468.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.99% or 1.49 to hit $76.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 1.48 to trade at $79.55 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.60% to 0.65, while AUD/JPY fell 0.65% to 99.25.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.19.
