Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the gained 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the were Appen Ltd (ASX:), which rose 9.62% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.86 at the close. Meanwhile, Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:) added 5.71% or 0.16 points to end at 2.96 and IGO Ltd (ASX:) was up 4.62% or 0.23 points to 5.21 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:), which fell 3.44% or 0.10 points to trade at 2.81 at the close. Amotiv Ltd (ASX:) declined 2.56% or 0.26 points to end at 9.90 and Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:) was down 2.54% or 0.02 points to 0.57.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 640 to 454 and 423 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.54% or 0.02 to 0.57.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 9.53% to 14.76.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 5.00 to $2,436.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.11% or 0.08 to hit $73.28 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.05 to trade at $76.53 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.41% to 0.65, while AUD/JPY rose 2.22% to 96.17.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 103.04.
