Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The best performers of the session on the were Entain PLC (LON:), which rose 3.93% or 19.80 points to trade at 523.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Vodafone Group PLC (LON:) added 3.92% or 2.76 points to end at 73.20 and Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:) was up 3.73% or 130.00 points to 3,618.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were WPP PLC (LON:), which fell 1.95% or 14.00 points to trade at 703.00 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:) declined 1.84% or 136.00 points to end at 7,274.00 and Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:) was down 1.53% or 42.00 points to 2,698.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1410 to 443 and 625 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 3.05 to $2,434.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.24% or 2.37 to hit $75.57 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.80% or 2.14 to trade at $78.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 103.00.
