LENOIR CITY, TN — A domestic dispute on Tuesday night resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man and injuries to his parents.
According to the Lenoir City Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a fight at a residence on West Broadway Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the man deceased from gunshot wounds.
Investigations revealed that he initially assaulted his mother before turning his aggression toward his father. In defense, his father retrieved a firearm and shot him. Both parents were transported to a local hospital, with the mother later transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center due to the severity of her injuries.
Authorities noted that the deceased man had been involved in a prior shooting incident in late November, where he sustained minor injuries. The suspect in that case was later apprehended and charged with multiple offenses. Police indicated that both incidents were related to drug activities.
At this time, no charges have been filed concerning the recent shooting. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the district attorney and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
It is always tragic when a parent is forced to take such extreme measures against their own child, but in this case, the father’s actions appear to have been justified as self-defense. With the son attacking both parents and escalating the situation, the father did what was necessary to protect himself and his wife from further harm. This difficult situation underscores the importance of acting decisively when faced with an imminent threat to life.
