FLORENCE, KY (4-minute read) — In the early hours of Saturday, a birthday party in Florence, Kentucky, turned tragic as a shooting claimed the lives of four individuals and left three others critically wounded. The suspected shooter, Chase Garvey, 21, later died after a police pursuit that ended when his vehicle plunged into a ditch.
Police Chief Jeff Mallery reported that officers responded to a call at around 2:50 a.m. Upon arrival, they heard gunfire and discovered seven victims at the scene. Four people were pronounced dead at the site, while three others were transported to a Cincinnati hospital in critical condition. Authorities expect the wounded individuals to recover.
This birthday party shooting took place at a residence where people had gathered for a birthday celebration for the 21-year-old son of homeowner Melissa Parrett. Unfortunately, Parrett, 44, was among those killed. The other victims were identified as Shane Miller, 20; Hayden Rybicki, 20; and Delaney Eary, 19.

Surveillance video from a neighbor’s home shows the suspect walking between houses, with what appears to be a handgun in his right hand, just before the shooting.
The suspect was not an invited guest but was known to some attendees. After fleeing the scene, he led officers on a high-speed chase that concluded with his vehicle crashing into a ditch. Garvey was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have confirmed that Garvey acted alone and there is no further threat to the public.
