INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Chicago Rapper Lil Durk’s 10-year-old son has been accused of shooting his stepfather, Joshua Pippens, during a domestic dispute in Indiana. The incident, which took place on July 1, has sparked intense debate and concern on social media.
According to social media posts made by Pippens, who goes by reezy_dgaf on Instagram, the altercation began when the 10-year-old’s mother, Ms. Collier, allegedly instigated the conflict. Pippens claims that during the heated exchange, Ms. Collier instructed her son to grab Pippens’ gun from his hip. Pippens shared a video showing the young boy gaining control of the firearm and firing a shot, which resulted in Pippens being hospitalized.
“As y’all can see I was not the aggressor,” Pippens wrote in his Instagram caption. “And y’all also can see how I still had my gun on my hip. He grabbed my gun off my hip following his mom’s lead and tried to shoot me and then actually shot me. I advise y’all see it before they take it down.”
A police report detailing the incident was also shared by Pippens. It stated that the 10-year-old was interviewed by FCM Dial at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Office on July 2. He recounted the events, explaining that he intervened in a fight between his mother and Pippens, attempting to push Pippens away. He admitted that during the struggle, Pippens’ gun fell to the ground, and he picked it up and shot Pippens to protect his mother.
The report further revealed that he was scared his mother would be shot, and noted that there had been a history of verbal altercations between Pippens and Ms. Collier. The Indiana Department of Child Services has since requested the court’s intervention to ensure the safety of him and his siblings.
Pippens defended himself on social media, stating, “My gun was on my hip and I was trying to protect myself from getting shot. I never in a million years thought a kid I bought 4 wheelers and paid for football leagues and everything would do this, but he only knows what mom shows him. I still love him like he’s mine.”
He expressed his hope that Lil Durk would gain custody of his stepson, saying, “I pray y’all favorite rapper takes custody of -removed- and I get full custody of mine. It’s about the kids at the end of the day.”
This incident underscores the importance of responsible firearm handling and the need for secure holsters with retention, especially when open carrying. Firearm Rule #5 emphasizes the necessity of maintaining control over your weapon at all times to prevent such tragic outcomes. While the full details of the incident are still unfolding, it serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences of failing to adhere to these essential safety practices.
