An escaped inmate in Towns County, Georgia, was recaptured thanks to the vigilance of an armed homeowner and his Labradoodle. The incident underscores the importance of self-defense and community vigilance.
TOWNS COUNTY, GA (2-minute read) — An escaped inmate who fled from his work assignment earlier this week has been brought back into custody, thanks to the efforts of a vigilant and armed local resident and his loyal dog.
Bruce Douglas Partin Jr., 39, managed to leave his work detail at the county dump on Monday afternoon. Authorities launched a search for him immediately.
On Thursday afternoon, a local resident noticed someone in an orange jail uniform and called 911. This crucial tip helped authorities focus their search.
A few hours later, Steven Kirby, living nearby, became suspicious when his Labradoodle, Odie, began barking fiercely outside. Sensing potential trouble, Kirby armed himself and went to investigate.
Kirby found Partin and instructed him to lie on the ground while holding him at gunpoint. His wife called 911, and deputies soon arrived to take Partin back into custody without incident.
Kirby explained to the investigators that his primary concern was safeguarding his family and property. The sheriff’s office commended Kirby on social media, humorously remarking, “There’s a new lawman looking over things up on Fodder Creek, Steven Kirby and his faithful K-9 Labradoodle Odie.”
Originally, Partin faced charges of burglary, theft, probation violation, and drug offenses. Following his escape, he is expected to face additional charges, though specifics are still pending.
This incident serves as a reminder of the significant role responsible gun ownership and community vigilance play in ensuring safety. Kirby’s decisive actions were instrumental in the recapture of the escaped inmate, highlighting the importance of being prepared to protect one’s family and property.
Safety Tip: Always stay aware of your surroundings and contact law enforcement immediately if you suspect an intruder. Ensure your family is in a safe place before taking any action.
