Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The best performers of the session on the were EML Payments Ltd (ASX:), which rose 5.91% or 0.06 points to trade at 0.99 at the close. Meanwhile, Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:) added 3.29% or 0.08 points to end at 2.36 and Mirvac Group (ASX:) was up 3.08% or 0.06 points to 1.92 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Qbe Insurance Group Ltd (ASX:), which fell 4.74% or 0.87 points to trade at 17.50 at the close. Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:) declined 4.58% or 0.07 points to end at 1.46 and St Barbara Ltd (ASX:) was down 4.55% or 0.01 points to 0.21.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 653 to 525 and 468 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.59% to 10.76.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.15% or 3.50 to $2,343.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $80.62 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.13 to trade at $85.20 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 0.67, while AUD/JPY rose 0.20% to 105.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 104.88.
