Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The best performers of the session on the were International Petroleum Corp (TSX:), which rose 6.52% or 1.18 points to trade at 19.28 at the close. Meanwhile, Denison Mines Corp (TSX:) added 5.11% or 0.14 points to end at 2.88 and Onex Corp (TSX:) was up 4.63% or 4.31 points to 97.33 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:), which fell 4.59% or 0.22 points to trade at 4.57 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:) declined 3.88% or 0.12 points to end at 2.97 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:) was down 3.78% or 0.43 points to 10.96.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 509 to 434 and 104 ended unchanged.
Shares in International Petroleum Corp (TSX:) rose to all time highs; up 6.52% or 1.18 to 19.28. Shares in Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.88% or 0.12 to 2.97.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.45% to 7.95.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.50 to $2,338.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.12% or 0.10 to hit $83.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.10% or 0.09 to trade at $86.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.44% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.37% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 105.37.
