Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the rose 1.58%.
The best performers of the session on the were MDA Ltd (TSX:), which rose 12.43% or 1.50 points to trade at 13.57 at the close. Meanwhile, OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:) added 9.33% or 0.28 points to end at 3.28 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:) was up 7.79% or 1.13 points to 15.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:), which fell 9.36% or 2.38 points to trade at 23.05 at the close. SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:) declined 5.55% or 0.62 points to end at 10.56 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:) was down 4.71% or 1.26 points to 25.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 690 to 230 and 83 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 16.97% to 16.44.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.35% or 32.95 to $2,465.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.20% or 0.90 to hit $76.13 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.76 to trade at $79.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 103.03.
