Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the fell 0.45% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the were Shopify Inc (TSX:), which rose 17.85% or 13.31 points to trade at 87.87 at the close. Meanwhile, iA Financial Corporation Inc (TSX:) added 4.71% or 4.18 points to end at 92.98 and Suncor Energy Inc (TSX:) was up 4.38% or 2.23 points to 53.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:), which fell 7.12% or 0.23 points to trade at 3.00 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:) declined 6.74% or 0.41 points to end at 5.67 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:) was down 6.60% or 1.76 points to 24.90.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 568 to 350 and 105 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.38% to 19.80 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 8.70 to $2,422.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.90% or 2.12 to hit $75.32 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.50% or 1.91 to trade at $78.39 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.35% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 102.98.
