Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The best performers of the session on the were NFI Group Inc (TSX:), which rose 11.25% or 1.93 points to trade at 19.08 at the close. Meanwhile, TransAlta Corp (TSX:) added 8.56% or 0.89 points to end at 11.29 and Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:) was up 7.57% or 0.92 points to 13.08 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:), which fell 13.35% or 1.14 points to trade at 7.40 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:) declined 11.96% or 1.10 points to end at 8.10 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:) was down 11.36% or 0.87 points to 6.79.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 617 to 326 and 98 ended unchanged.
Shares in NFI Group Inc (TSX:) rose to 52-week highs; up 11.25% or 1.93 to 19.08.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 14.60% to 13.34.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.57% or 14.15 to $2,487.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.30% or 1.01 to hit $76.90 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.96% or 0.78 to trade at $80.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.54% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.18% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 104.20.
