NEW ORLEANS, LA (2-minute read) — A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and St. Claude Avenue in New Orleans. Around 3:58 p.m., the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to a call about an aggravated battery by cutting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman in a wheelchair suffering from multiple stab wounds and an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.
The emergency medical services (EMS) quickly transported the injured woman to a nearby hospital, while the man was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the NOPD, the deceased male had attacked the woman without provocation, repeatedly stabbing her. In a brave act of intervention, a security guard from a nearby business stepped in and shot the assailant once, stopping the attack.
The security guard was detained for questioning but has since been released. This case highlights the critical role of security personnel in ensuring public safety and responding effectively to violent incidents.
