Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the gained 0.16%, while the index added 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:), which rose 2.67% or 75.85 points to trade at 2,915.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:) added 2.17% or 61.35 points to end at 2,883.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:) was up 2.15% or 7.00 points to 332.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:), which fell 2.41% or 36.75 points to trade at 1,490.40 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:) declined 2.19% or 33.70 points to end at 1,507.85 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:) was down 1.70% or 25.25 points to 1,460.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which rose 2.69% to 2,913.35, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.32% to settle at 333.35 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which gained 2.11% to close at 1,497.35.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 2.42% to 1,489.90 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which lost 1.14% to settle at 177.80 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.75% to 2,885.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1146 to 1131 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2035 rose and 1813 declined, while 151 ended unchanged.
Shares in Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:) rose to all time highs; up 2.17% or 61.35 to 2,883.00.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.66% to 14.06.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.28% or 6.60 to $2,337.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.26% or 0.21 to hit $80.94 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.31 to trade at $84.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 83.49, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 89.54.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 105.25.
