Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the rose 0.23%, while the index added 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the were NTPC Ltd (NS:), which rose 4.01% or 12.45 points to trade at 322.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Trent Ltd (NS:) added 3.89% or 239.75 points to end at 6,400.90 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:) was up 2.89% or 8.40 points to 298.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:), which fell 2.93% or 89.50 points to trade at 2,960.00 at the close. Axis Bank Ltd (NS:) declined 2.49% or 26.15 points to end at 1,025.50 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:) was down 2.25% or 38.55 points to 1,674.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Zomato Ltd (NS:) which rose 5.18% to 245.70, NTPC Ltd (BO:) which was up 3.91% to settle at 323.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which gained 3.03% to close at 298.80.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which was down 2.86% to 2,961.55 in late trade, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:) which lost 2.28% to settle at 1,025.90 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.27% to 1,673.45 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1215 to 1119 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2036 rose and 1752 declined, while 105 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.13% to 15.30.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.11% or 29.76 to $2,712.06 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.27% or 0.21 to hit $76.58 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.13 to trade at $80.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 86.37, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 89.02.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 108.91.
