Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the gained 0.59%, while the index climbed 0.57%.
The best performers of the session on the were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:), which rose 3.98% or 446.40 points to trade at 11,648.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:) added 3.47% or 236.90 points to end at 7,065.80 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:) was up 3.35% or 87.30 points to 2,693.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:), which fell 2.67% or 17.55 points to trade at 640.20 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:) declined 1.71% or 26.20 points to end at 1,507.70 and NTPC Ltd (NS:) was down 1.50% or 5.45 points to 358.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which rose 3.93% to 11,639.65, JSW Steel Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.47% to settle at 990.05 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.81% to close at 1,742.55.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.46% to 358.55 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:) which lost 0.67% to settle at 2,479.50 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 0.67% to 1,755.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1588 to 919 and 150 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2361 rose and 1521 declined, while 178 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.24% to 14.75.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.82% or 21.96 to $2,659.04 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.81% or 0.55 to hit $68.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.58 to trade at $72.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.18% to 84.72, while EUR/INR fell 0.52% to 89.08.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 106.31.
