Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the declined 0.16%, while the index lost 0.35%.
The best performers of the session on the were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:), which rose 4.26% or 27.45 points to trade at 671.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:) added 3.12% or 46.60 points to end at 1,540.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:) was up 2.96% or 9.05 points to 315.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:), which fell 2.09% or 33.85 points to trade at 1,585.00 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:) declined 1.93% or 114.75 points to end at 5,830.00 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:) was down 1.90% or 23.90 points to 1,233.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:) which rose 3.01% to 1,538.85, NTPC Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.81% to settle at 393.10 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:) which gained 2.48% to close at 1,026.20.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.03% to 1,585.00 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which lost 1.70% to settle at 6,617.65 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:) which was down 1.61% to 2,722.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1726 to 455 and 18 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2718 rose and 1023 declined, while 100 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.12% or 46.60 to 1,540.00. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:) rose to all time highs; up 2.81% or 10.75 to 393.10.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.98% to 11.73 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.30% or 7.20 to $2,414.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.82% or 0.63 to hit $77.59 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.57 to trade at $81.58 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.71, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 90.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.14.
