The best performers of the session on the were Infosys Ltd (NS:), which rose 1.80% or 31.60 points to trade at 1,789.65 at the close. Meanwhile, ITC Ltd (NS:) added 0.62% or 2.90 points to end at 473.15 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:) was up 0.60% or 17.45 points to 2,949.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:), which fell 4.97% or 8.26 points to trade at 158.10 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:) declined 4.79% or 44.65 points to end at 886.80 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:) was down 4.12% or 13.10 points to 305.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:) which rose 1.71% to 1,789.30, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:) which was up 0.67% to settle at 2,950.00 and ITC Ltd (BO:) which gained 0.62% to close at 473.00.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which was down 4.90% to 158.20 in late trade, JSW Steel Ltd (BO:) which lost 4.63% to settle at 887.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:) which was down 3.58% to 1,485.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1908 to 348 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2881 fell and 890 advanced, while 86 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.63% or 40.15 to $2,416.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.33% or 0.27 to hit $81.03 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.17 to trade at $84.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 83.67, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 91.08.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 104.05.
