BOISE, ID (3-minute read) — A violent encounter at a Boise business Saturday night led to a self-defense shooting involving a store employee and three suspects.

Around 9:30 p.m., Boise Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 6300 block of West Fairview Avenue. Officers arrived to find an employee seriously injured after being attacked during an attempted theft.

According to investigators, 18-year-old Bailey Geesey of Boise entered the business and began stealing alcoholic beverages. When confronted, Geesey responded violently, punching the employee in the face. The situation escalated when two others, 18-year-old Junior Antonio Alvarodo Hernandez and an unnamed juvenile, joined in the attack.

The employee was forced into a corner and was repeatedly punched, kicked, and stomped. In a desperate act of self-defense, the employee drew a legally possessed firearm and fired at the attackers, striking Hernandez.

All three suspects fled the scene, but police later located their vehicle near North Curtis Road and West Irving Street. Officers arrested Geesey and the juvenile, and administered medical aid to the wounded Hernandez before transporting him to the hospital. He was later booked into Ada County Jail.

The employee was also taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Self-Defense Laws and Concealed Carry Rights

In Idaho, individuals have the right to use force, including deadly force, in self-defense if they reasonably believe they are in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death. Castle Doctrine laws and Stand Your Ground provisions support a person’s right to defend themselves in their place of work, particularly in cases of aggravated assault.

While this incident is a stark reminder of the dangers retail workers face, it also illustrates the legal protections available to those who lawfully carry firearms for personal defense.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings and have a plan for de-escalation. If you carry a firearm for self-defense, train regularly and understand your local laws regarding use of force.
