Russia has claimed that elite divers from the United Kingdom were the most likely culprits behind the Nord Stream pipeline’s sabotage. Nikolay Patrushev, a top aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has claimed that Ukraine lacked the expertise to bomb the Baltic Sea pipelines, so outside “help” was necessary.
Seymour Hersh: CIA Planted Nord Stream Cover-Up Story in the Media
In an article published Sunday in Kommersant, the former head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), Nikolay Patrushev, posed the theory that Ukrainians lack the expertise to carry out this operation independently because of its complexity, according to a report by RT.
German prosecutors have claimed that the explosions were carried out by a group of Ukrainian nationals. The sabotage took place in international waters in September 2022, which disabled the two pipelines that were supplying Russian gas to Germany via the Baltic Sea. Germany has largely been on Ukraine’s side during the current conflict, too, which adds another layer of interest to the situation.
A Ukrainian Has Been Arrested For Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage
Russia lashed out after a Ukrainian man was arrested in the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage case, claiming the investigation was not adequate. Moscow accused NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) nations of blocking a fair investigation, slams Denmark and Germany for “non-cooperation,” and warns the West of double standards.
The sabotage was likely “planned, overseen, and executed with the involvement of highly trained NATO special forces,” Patrushev wrote, adding that the perpetrators were experienced in deep-sea operations and familiar with working in the Baltic.
“Few armies or intelligence services have divers capable of executing such an operation correctly and, above all, covertly. One unit with the necessary skills is the British Special Boat Service,” he said. Founded during World War II, the SBS is the Royal Navy’s elite squad specializing in amphibious warfare.
Russia Blames The U.S. & U.K. For Nord Stream Sabotage AGAIN
Russia has blamed both the United States and the United Kingdom for the pipeline destruction.
Russia has criticized the German investigation for a lack of transparency and for not including the Russian authorities. In 2024, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service claimed it had “credible information” that the US and UK were directly involved in the sabotage, a claim denied by both London and Washington. –RT
This pipeline’s sabotage has been a bone of contention since it happened, with all countries and journalists disagreeing with the outcome of the investigation and plenty of speculation to go around.
