Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The best performers of the session on the were JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:), which rose 4.02% or 4.95 points to trade at 128.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Airtel Africa Plc (LON:) added 2.90% or 3.20 points to end at 113.60 and Croda International PLC (LON:) was up 2.10% or 81.00 points to 3,943.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Severn Trent PLC (LON:), which fell 2.45% or 62.00 points to trade at 2,470.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:) declined 1.68% or 31.50 points to end at 1,849.00 and 3I Group PLC (LON:) was down 1.40% or 45.00 points to 3,172.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1014 to 694 and 761 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 7.05 to $2,543.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.30% or 0.95 to hit $72.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.78 to trade at $76.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 101.07.
