Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The best performers of the session on the were Admiral Group PLC (LON:), which rose 2.19% or 59.00 points to trade at 2,757.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Persimmon PLC (LON:) added 2.06% or 32.50 points to end at 1,610.00 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:) was up 1.71% or 4.60 points to 274.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Antofagasta PLC (LON:), which fell 2.18% or 41.00 points to trade at 1,838.50 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:) declined 1.76% or 5.70 points to end at 317.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:) was down 1.18% or 4.85 points to 405.40.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 993 to 759 and 721 ended unchanged.
Shares in Persimmon PLC (LON:) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.06% or 32.50 to 1,610.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 5.40 to $2,509.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.15% or 1.72 to hit $78.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.94% or 1.60 to trade at $80.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.54% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 102.68.
