The best performers of the session on the were Frasers Group PLC (LON:), which rose 2.79% or 17.00 points to trade at 626.50 at the close. Meanwhile, B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:) added 2.17% or 7.70 points to end at 362.70 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:) was up 2.04% or 8.00 points to 399.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Severn Trent PLC (LON:), which fell 2.25% or 58.00 points to trade at 2,516.00 at the close. JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:) declined 2.16% or 2.10 points to end at 95.00 and Hiscox Ltd (LON:) was down 1.99% or 22.00 points to 1,084.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 926 to 894 and 612 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.44% or 37.51 to $2,645.61 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.73% or 1.22 to hit $69.36 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.07 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.84% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.72% at 107.37.
