The best performers of the session on the were Severn Trent PLC (LON:), which rose 2.52% or 63.00 points to trade at 2,564.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:) added 1.77% or 74.00 points to end at 4,246.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:) was up 1.74% or 2.40 points to 140.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group PLC (LON:), which fell 4.54% or 40.80 points to trade at 857.40 at the close. BP PLC (LON:) declined 4.30% or 20.40 points to end at 454.25 and Next PLC (LON:) was down 3.73% or 336.00 points to 8,674.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1084 to 723 and 684 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.26% or 6.10 to $2,369.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.21% or 1.00 to hit $81.33 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.29% or 1.11 to trade at $84.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 104.83.
