Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The best performers of the session on the were Severn Trent PLC (LON:), which rose 0.94% or 24.00 points to trade at 2,574.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Imperial Brands PLC (LON:) added 0.55% or 14.00 points to end at 2,572.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:) was up 0.36% or 7.00 points to 1,935.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:), which fell 3.77% or 146.00 points to trade at 3,732.00 at the close. Mondi PLC (LON:) declined 3.66% or 43.50 points to end at 1,145.50 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:) was down 3.41% or 176.00 points to 4,990.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1383 to 452 and 589 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mondi PLC (LON:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.66% or 43.50 to 1,145.50.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.73% or 45.95 to $2,607.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.70% or 1.20 to hit $69.38 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.83% or 0.61 to trade at $72.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.51% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 108.07.
