Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.20% to hit a new all time high, while the index added 0.25%, and the index added 0.57%.
The best performers of the session on the were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:), which rose 3.98% or 14.76 points to trade at 385.93 at the close. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:) added 2.71% or 1.41 points to end at 53.45 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) was up 2.37% or 6.27 points to 270.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:), which fell 5.44% or 15.70 points to trade at 272.93 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) declined 1.40% or 4.69 points to end at 330.92 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) was down 1.00% or 4.34 points to 429.17.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:) which rose 7.93% to 48.72, Estee Lauder Companies Inc (NYSE:) which was up 6.09% to settle at 91.98 and Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:) which gained 5.34% to close at 44.38.
The worst performers were Global Payments Inc (NYSE:) which was down 6.46% to 103.81 in late trade, Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) which lost 5.44% to settle at 272.93 and McKesson Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 4.85% to 480.49 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Onconetix Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 5,112.40% to 3.87, Beasley Broadcast Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 2,031.58% to settle at 10.13 and Maison Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 115.86% to close at 1.59.
The worst performers were Biovie Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 57.86% to 1.18 in late trade, Focus Universal Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 28.97% to settle at 0.23 and Expion360 Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 24.44% to 0.09 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1694 to 1090 and 104 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1713 rose and 1550 declined, while 136 ended unchanged.
Shares in Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; up 3.98% or 14.76 to 385.93. Shares in Biovie Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 57.86% or 1.62 to 1.18.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.15% to 15.39.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.31% or 34.75 to $2,687.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.68% or 1.18 to hit $71.55 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.72% or 1.26 to trade at $74.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.60% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 0.29% to 143.18.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 100.05.
