Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the rose 0.22%, while the index climbed 0.14%, and the index fell 0.07%.
The best performers of the session on the were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:), which rose 2.00% or 10.27 points to trade at 524.52 at the close. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:) added 1.36% or 0.83 points to end at 61.67 and 3M Company (NYSE:) was up 1.33% or 1.76 points to 134.53 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:), which fell 2.71% or 3.96 points to trade at 142.27 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) declined 1.46% or 1.63 points to end at 109.76 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.16% or 1.17 points to 99.85.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were eBay Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 9.81% to 69.37, Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE:) which was up 4.30% to settle at 95.95 and CarMax Inc (NYSE:) which gained 3.55% to close at 81.93.
The worst performers were Edison International (NYSE:) which was down 10.18% to 69.50 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 9.17% to settle at 43.17 and ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 7.05% to 58.31 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were JX Luxventure Ltd (NASDAQ:) which rose 222.03% to 3.80, CURRENC Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 182.01% to settle at 3.92 and Sana Biotechnology Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 160.61% to close at 4.30.
The worst performers were DatChat Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 64.05% to 3.21 in late trade, Jasper Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 60.53% to settle at 6.99 and XTI Aerospace Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 55.74% to 0.05 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1539 to 1225 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2322 fell and 999 advanced, while 90 ended unchanged.
Shares in eBay Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 3-years highs; up 9.81% or 6.20 to 69.37. Shares in Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; up 4.30% or 3.96 to 95.95. Shares in ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.05% or 4.42 to 58.31. Shares in Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) fell to 3-years lows; down 2.71% or 3.96 to 142.27.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.67% to 17.70.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.53% or 14.21 to $2,679.61 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.27% or 0.94 to hit $73.31 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.14% or 0.88 to trade at $76.17 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.03, while USD/JPY rose 0.23% to 158.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 108.86.
