Burnley and Boker Bring Out the Mini D.A.D.

Boker has a new fixed blade out from Lucas Burnley, the Mini D.A.D. This one delivers on the increasingly popular EDC fixed blade concept with its compact but capable design.

While it seems like just yesterday that Burnley was an up-and-coming maker, he has by now firmly established himself in the custom, production, and midtech spaces. In purely numerical terms, it may well have been his production collaborations that broadcast his name out the furthest, and Boker played an instrumental role in this when they brought out a consumer-friendly version of the Kwaiken, a design that, even after all these years, is still the first one that comes to mind for many when they think of Burnley’s work.

The Mini D.A.D. is quite a thin carry

Since then, Burnley has worked with Boker on a whole gaggle of designs, of which the Mini D.A.D. is the latest. It has a 2.83-inch drop point blade, made from D2; that’s a length and steel choice that would put the D.A.D. in the EDC category if it were a folder – and it lands it there too as a fixed blade. There’s enough edge – and belly – to tackle a lot of different chores in the small-to-medium categories and, given that this is a fixed blade and thus without any moving parts, the Mini D.A.D. can withstand some work that a similarly-sized folder simply wouldn’t be cut out for.

The Mini D.A.D.’s handle keeps the theatrics to a minimum; the only somewhat unusual feature here is the rearward finger groove – a choice that will aid in both indexing and in some of the more specialized knife grips as well. Worthy of note is just how thin the Mini D.A.D. is; when viewed side-on you can see that the entire handle stack – the full tang and letterboxed G-10 scales – has been thinned down and sits on that ideal point between weight savings and ergonomic comfort. The Kydex pancake sheath helps the Mini D.A.D. stay slim even during carry and in total it weighs just 2.79 oz.

The Mini D.A.D. is available now.
