Jason Knight’s Hummingbird EDC has come a long way over the years since we first laid eyes on it. It’s available now at KnivesShipFree and, since this is the all-around knife celebrity Knight’s birthday, it’s the perfect time to grab the latest generation.
While the knife has evolved over the years, the Hummingbird EDC, at its core, retains the spirit of the Kickstarter original. That project launched in 2022 and was instantly successful, as was the Kickstarter for the Hummingbird XL, which launched in 2025 and scaled the blade up to 2.87 inches. It was an interesting name for a knife that was so compact, and the now officially renamed Hummingbird EDC stands ready to continue its legacy as a highly capable daily carry fixed blade.
Knight’s style is in the Hummingbird EDC’s DNA. He is known for high-attitude blades crowned by harpoon-style swedges, and that’s what we see on the Hummingbird EDC’s clip point as well. It’s made from AUS10A, the bigger brother to AUS8, and an all-arounder choice for the price point. Given that fixed blades can get thrown into harder jobs than their folding cousins gives AUS10A another appealing characteristic: it is easy to touch up, sharpen, and repair.
The OG Hummingbird fluttered into our lives with flat G-10 scales, but when the EDC, nee XL landed in 2025, it had fully contoured ones instead, with a diamond pattern texturing cut into it underneath a faux bolster. The arc from guard to flared butt end gives the EDC bracket-style ergonomics, enclosing the grip to prevent slippage from either direction. The Kydex sheath can be carried on the belt with the included clip, or even worn around the neck if that’s your style.
