An incoming folder from Civivi, the Vyrent, will function as the debut platform for an exciting addition to the company’s corral of steels. This ergonomic, mid-size folder’s blade is made from the first batch of Nitro-X7 we’ve seen from Civivi.

Before we get into Nitro-X7 itself, let’s take a look at the design it is being used in. The Vyrent is another entry in the long and proud line of mid-sized Civivi users. The 3.5-inch drop point blade has a wide profile for that extra touch of toughness, and the geometry – a long gentle curve out to a very usable tip – is as intuitive as they come. After a long spell where smaller knives were favored for everyday carry, the mid-size models seem to be back in vogue, thanks in no small part to the prolific Civivi itself, we’d wager; and the Vyrent checks all the boxes for an entry into that bustling genre.

There’s a textured oval in the center of the Vyrent’s handle

Now, the steel. Anybody who follows Civivi’s releases will be familiar with Nitro-V, one of the popular kids in the entry-level enthusiast knife steel category. Well, Nitro-X7 is an upgraded relation to the formula that began circulating back in 2024 but hasn’t seen a lot of play in the production knife scene up until now. Enthusiasts will be studying the performance of this steel for years, discussing its pros and cons and so forth, but early reports seem to indicate X7 makes a notable jump in performance over its older sibling.

No never-before-implemented materials for the Vyrent’s handle, but that’s no bad thing at all. Scale options include canvas Micarta, G-10, or aluminum foil-infused G-10 for enhanced aesthetics; and in all three variations the scales are thick and 3D-contoured for maximize the comfort factor on the Vyrent’s roomy, gentle bracket-shaped handle. The deep carry pocket clip is back in action here, and can be reversed to either side to better accommodate lefties (or righties who favor a crossdraw…). Weight hovers in the mid-4 ounce range, with the the aluminum foil G-10 option being the heaviest at 4.68 oz.

The Vyrent will be available soon.
