One of the quirkier pieces in the latest passel of Civivi product announcements is the Squib. It’s a cute little flipper with a stout build and a lot of character.

You can’t call a knife the “Squib” and then making it some massive tactical piece. Certain words bring certain connotations, and “Squib” does not evoke images of 4.5-inch bladed monstrosities. In fact, when coming to matching name to knife, Civivi did a bang-up job here, as the Squib’s lighthearted appearance – lightheartedness that’s built on solid working knife principles and doesn’t impeded its utility – fits its name like the proverbial glove.

The Micarta Squib has a standout color scheme

2.28 inches: that’s the length of the Squib’s blade, and an adequate amount of edge for a large swathe of daily cutting jobs. A sizable finger choil underneath the edge lets users choke up for more control over an already highly maneuverable blade. This cute-looking, snubby spear point blade offers both a thumb stud and a flipper for deployment. The Nitro-V used here (and in a fair number of the Squib’s Civivi siblings) checks all the requisite boxes for a budget-friendly EDC blade steel.

Looking at it as a wireframe, there’s nothing unusual about the Squib’s handle – but the choice of handle materials on the two viewable prototypes underline the fact that this is a serious tool that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’ve got a model with yellow G-10 scales accented with complimentary red G-10 grooves, as well as a psychedelic orange/blue/black/white Micarta flavor that really stands out from even Civivi’s populous catalog. The Squib is a liner lock, comes with a deep carry pocket clip, and weighs 2.64 oz.

It’s slated for release later this year.
