Alabama vs Kentucky over 48.5 is the college football betting play as both offenses look strong

It has been a disaster of a start for me with College Football. I’ve always enjoyed betting on it, and usually I find really nice opportunities early in the season, but I was awful last week. The good news is that I have plenty of weeks to dig myself out of the hole I built, but the bad news is that it happened at all. Today, I have a play for this match between Alabama and Kentucky.

Alabama is one of those schools that is synonymous with College Football. They haven’t been at the top of the nation in a few years, but they are still a tough team with plenty of talent. They started their season with a strong victory over East Carolina University. They won 48-10 with very little struggle to get things going. It was a good sign for a team looking to adjust to Keelon Russell being under center full time.

Russell looked great in his first game this season, even if he wasn’t all that accurate with his throws. Perhaps that is something to watch over the next few games. The Alabama quarterback threw 30 times and only completed 18 of his passes. He did run 13 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. The ground game was strong for Alabama in this one, so Russell also didn’t need to be overly accurate. They ran the ball 49 times for 227 yards and five touchdowns.

Kentucky also opened their season with a rather inferior opponent. They faced the Youngstown State Penguins and blew them out 45-13. It was actually a bit of a surprise that they allowed 13 points to their opponent, and not all of it was in garbage time. The story of this game was really not about the Wildcats’ defense; it was about how good the offense looked in their first game. Putting up 45 is a good number to hang on your opponent, but how they did it was most impressive.

The Wildcats turned the ball over to Kenny Minchey, who made his debut. Minchey was 18-for-27 with 301 passing yards and four touchdowns. He also showed that he can run if he needs to, getting 17 yards on his one rush attempt. The rest of the backfield did a solid job, rushing for 188 yards on 33 carries and two touchdowns. Sure, it was against a bad team, but they still did a good job of taking advantage of the opportunity presented to them.

This one should be a pretty fun game to watch. I think both teams are still going to focus on getting their offenses rolling instead of putting up defensive stops. Obviously neither team will willingly give up points, but I don’t think they have much of an option here. I’m going to back the over 48.5 in this one. I think you can play this up to over 50.5.
