Gavin Rossdale is revealing his surprising connection to country music as he prepares to perform at Stagecoach in a few weeks.

Rossdale told Fox News Digital that he lives with someone who enjoys country music and spends half of his time listening to artists like Zach Bryan.

“It’s funny, I live with someone who wants to play country music on most school rides. So, I get to listen to country half the time. And the other one he’s into, my son, he’s into yacht rock,” Rossdale said. Yacht rock is a term to describe soft rock from the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Rossdale shares three sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo, with his ex-wife, Gwen Stefani. Rossdale is currently in a three-year relationship with musician Xhoana Xheneti.

“So I split the time between when he’s DJing, it’s yacht rock, it’s the Doobie Brothers, which is kind of cool, or country stuff,” Rossdale said. “Now, I like Zach Bryan, I think he’s incredible, I like some of those songs. You know, I liked it when it’s more individual sounding and darker and weirder.”

The Bush band member explained that he’s not quite up to speed on country music songs, but prefers to listen to the Americana vibe that Bryan brings.

Rossdale and his fellow Bush band members are heading to Stagecoach this year. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Rossdale said he’s not afraid to perform at a country music festival because he believes rock and country audiences have a lot in common.

“I think it just comes down to playing well and being enthusiastic and having a good energy. And if you bring good energy, there’s no reason why people can’t respond,” he began.

Rossdale, 60, is surprised that his career has spanned decades. The musician told Fox News Digital that he believed once he turned 40, his life would be over.

“Everything is really weird because when I was young and to think, even to reflect myself at this point in my life would have been like, surely you’re gonna be dead at that point. So the fact I’m not dead is this crazy bonus from what my vision as a kid. When I turned 40, I thought that’s it, it’s all over. And so for me, it is an incredible journey,” Rossdale said.

He compared music to a “crazy, crazy wife” — something that he’s scared of, yet he controls.

“I think it’s all about exploring it, and for me, I continue to try and delve into like, just getting better at it,” Rossdale said of making music.

He also told Fox News Digital he feels lucky to have the rest of his band members because “they play so well and hard and consistent.”
