Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., opened up about the car crash that derailed his football dreams as a teenager, revealing the moment he believes divine intervention saved his life.
“I called for help, which for me was, I just yelled, ‘Jesus,'” the South Carolina Republican recalled during the latest episode of “Hang Out With Sean Hannity.”
“I feel like, in an unusually miraculous way, some power — angel, in my opinion — protected me through all of that carnage.”

Scott recounted the crash during a conversation with Fox News host Sean Hannity at last week’s Republican National Committee Midterm Convention in Dallas, where the two discussed the pivotal moment in the senator’s life that unfolded long before he entered national politics.
Scott, a standout high school football player at the time, had been “moving up the ranks” when the crash derailed his athletic career.
He recalled driving his mother to work one morning before falling asleep behind the wheel on his way home.

After waking to the sound of his tires on gravel, Scott said he slammed on the brakes and jerked the steering wheel, sending the car spinning across lanes of traffic before it hit the median. The impact sent him through the windshield as he held onto the steering wheel.
The crash left Scott with a broken ankle and back injuries, and many promises of college athletic scholarships dwindled.
Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, however, offered Scott a partial scholarship.
He said he later gave his life and heart to Jesus Christ while attending a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meeting at the school.
