Here comes the Cobber from Bestech, latest everyday carry-friendly folder from the company – and it comes to us courtesy of a brand new collaborator, Australian shop Happy as Larry.

However happy Larry may or may not be, he’s not so because he owns an Australian knife shop; Happy as Larry is in fact that brainchild of designer Jake Diaz, who brings decades of general industrial design experience to the knife game. The Cobber is part of a batch of production designs that Diaz has rolling out, which also includes pieces made in conjunction with CJRB and Tuya Knives – but the Cobber’s the only and first from Bestech.

It’s a Bestech piece, so you know color options abound

The blade straddles the profile fence between a spear point and a leaf blade, with the general utility these proven shapes apparent here in full force. 3.37 inches for the blade length, which lands the Cobber unambiguously in the EDC category if you ask us, and the 14C28N stainless steel implemented in its construction earns good marks for the price in all three metallurgical metrics: edge retention, rust resistance, and toughness.

Spiritually, G-10 is aligned with 14C28N in that it, too, performs very well against key criteria whilst managing not to put undue pressure on the wallet – as a handle material, not a blade material, of course. It’s been a while since we’ve looked at a Bestech knife but it’s nice to see they haven’t lost their predilection for expanded color options when it comes to the handle scales either. The Cobber weighs 3.1 oz. and comes with a reversible, deep carry pocket clip.

It is available now.
